Waterford West Masterplan

Logan City Council engaged Guymer Bailey Architects and Ross Planning to undergo a detailed spatial needs assessment and stakeholder consultation to develop the masterplan for the Waterford West District Sports Park.

The masterplan includes a diverse mix of active spaces that cater to various fitness levels and ages including a water play area, adventure play area, pump track, kick and throw area with a stage for outdoor performances and movie nights, running loop, outdoor gym and fitness hub, sport area with multipurpose courts, table tennis and equipment hire and a recreation hub with a café. Direct linkages to nearby Marsden State High School and Marsden State School were also considered through the design.

With the site partially flood affected and cut through by two open stormwater channels, water sensitive urban design strategies have been incorporated into the masterplan. This includes a stormwater bio-retention basin that will help to improve water quality, runoff and biodiversity. Development on the site will be balanced, ensuring the retention of significant vegetation.

Stage A works included the refurbishment and extension of an existing two-storey classroom block as well as the construction of a new covered walkway through the centre of the school.

Designing for a sustainable future is a core part of our organisational philosophy. Drawing on the knowledge from our Greenstar accredited team members and specialist consultants in environmentally sustainable design, we ensure our project teams integrate creativity with scientific rigour, to create designs that are conscientious of the natural environment and local ecology. PRINCIPLES OF PASSION

During the design process, our project team not only considers the physical context of the designs but also examines the social and cultural context. Through every design, we look for ways to inspire positive attitudes, behaviours and emotional responses in people to encourage the responsible use of resources, increase cooperation among occupants, and communicate the values of society and cultural diversity.

We design built environments from a holistic, sustainable perspective: each project reconciles ecological and social impacts within the current economic climate. We holistically evaluate environmental, cultural and financial sustainability in every task we undertake.
