GB-Alliance

We are GB-A.
Guymer Bailey Alliance.
A creative alliance of leading architects, interior designers, and landscape architects.

A design community with strong bonds through our shared vision, love of design and commitment to excellence. We care about each other, our clients, their clients, the environment, cultures, history, and the future.

While each of our design disciplines can operate independently, it is our collaborative multi-disciplinary approach that adds significant value to the clients we work with. It allows us to respond promptly, creatively, and holistically to your requirements, delivering innovative design concepts that result in functional, flexible, and timeless design solutions that fit seamlessly into the surrounding environment and effortlessly integrate from the inside out.

Design with a purpose

While we’re known for our exceptional expertise and ability, it’s the care and dedication that we bring to the table that our clients appreciate most.

At GB-A we create wellbeing by design. We bring life to space and space to life by designing projects that positively impact lives, livelihoods and living environments. To create spaces that inspire, engage, and create a legacy, we put our three key values into practice – care, collaborate and create.

Genuine people, Brilliant designers

Directors, Phil Jackson (Brisbane Studio) and Kavan Applegate (Melbourne Studio), lead our three design disciplines GB-Architects, GB-Interiors, and GB-Landscape and are supported by a team of 65 designers across our Brisbane and Melbourne Studios.

Our history

Founded in 1989, by Tim Guymer and Ralph Bailey, GB-A has a history spanning decades. Our track record designing beautiful, functional, sustainable, and award-winning architecture, interior design and landscape architecture started with our renowned foundational project, Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village on World Heritage listed Fraser Island.

This multi-award winning project put our name on the map and established the now popular concept of ecotourism. It also cemented our design approach that prioritises sustainability, wellbeing, cultural responsibility and integrated design.

Now, 35 years on, we honour our history by maintaining the same values and design approach we started with. Over the years we have built on this foundation, looking for new ways to ensure the environment and traditional owners are respected through our projects and that the design status quo is continually challenged and exceeded.

As part of our growth, we have expanded the number of sectors we design in, going from six to twelve key areas of expertise. These include, aged care, commercial, corrections, education, health and wellbeing, housing, infrastructure, justice, public spaces, sports and recreation and tourism.
