Mel Malik
Melbourne Studio Principal
I love how design can take life and gain momentum to be something far greater than the sum of its parts. I enjoy connecting people and ideas in new and authentic ways by removing obstacles to creativity, efficiency, and progress, so that everyone has a voice and the opportunity to contribute together. This creates a result that is as unique as the combination of individuals collaborating and ensures the biggest impact and most difference is made to a project.
Mel Malik is the Melbourne Studio Principal and a highly experienced Senior Architect. With over 13 years’ experience in design, Mel has lead projects across a wide range of sectors including commercial, sports, education, health, disaster response, housing, and tourism.
With a special interest in sustainable architecture, Mel enjoys designing and managing projects that create a legacy for the wider community. In her role as Studio Principal, Mel looks after our Melbourne studio strategy, operations, project delivery and culture. She enjoys the collaboration of projects and bringing out the best project outcome through research and stakeholder input to create something beautiful and fit-for-purpose.

Mel has also actively supported the architectural and design community in several ways through teaching Master of Architecture students at the University of Melbourne and Interior Design students at RMIT and being on the Australian Housing Institute Bright Futures judging panel, Christchurch’s Post Earthquake Catalyst Project and Urban Planning Committee and a volunteer architect for Habitat for Humanity.
Outside of work Mel enjoys lending her hands to people who need it. Whether that be students and graduates who need mentorship or helping those experiencing homelessness, exclusion, or hunger. Mel also loves to plant trees along the railway line.
