Defence

Over the last 30 years we have helped numerous government departments maximise efficiency, minimise environmental impact, reduce maintenance and futureproof their organisations through flexible, sustainable, and high-quality designs and we are excited to apply this knowledge and experience to the defence sector.

As specialists in high-security design we have a proven track record of managing large and very complex projects and understand the increased complexity of working within operational facilities. As most of the high security projects and training facilities we work on are in regional areas, we know how to manage projects in remote locations and are also well equipped at designing facilities that need to operate in ‘island mode’.

As our projects within this sector are sensitive in nature, we have included the map below to outline our experience in government projects across Australia. For further details on our experience, please contact us directly on 07 3870 9700.

Refurbishing facilities that are operational

As many of our secure projects require renovations and extensions to existing facilities, we are highly experienced in refurbishments and understand the increased complexity of working within operational facilities. With lots of unknowns in refurbishment projects, our team knows how crucial communication is as often planned solutions are not viable when on site.

To resolve this, our team think on their feet and carefully collaborate with all disciplines, stakeholders, and building occupants to find appropriate solutions and make fast decisions to ensure the best design outcome. Product and material selection are also important, and we take time to find products that match the existing facility and have better credentials to bring the building up to standard, increase performance and extend lifespan.

RESTORING HERITAGE-LISTED BUILDINGS

With experience in renovating and restoring heritage-listed buildings, we understand the need to maintain the original character of these structures to ensure new developments tie in seamlessly to the existing architecture of the site.

While honouring the history of the buildings we also, through respectful design that carefully utilises new building materials, improve environmental and operational performance and cost efficiency, and increases future flexibility to ensure facilities can be well utilised now and into the future.

MANAGING PROJECTS IN REMOTE LOCATIONS

As most high security and training facilities are in remote locations, we have significant experience in managing projects in remote locations. For large scale projects, we have relocated staff to the areas during the construction phase to provide our clients with a highly responsive team to assist the builder in developing solutions to any challenges that arise and ensure the highest quality built outcome.

Designing Armouries, Secure Control Rooms, and Magazines

A key requirement of designing high security projects is that each of these facilities needs to be able to operate in ‘island mode’. As such, master control rooms are incorporated into the design and refurbishment of facilities to ensure it can operate effectively in the case of disaster, emergency, or lockdown.

Over the last decade alone, we have designed close to 20 master control rooms and refurbished many more to ensure appropriate emergency response within these facilities.

PROACTIVE STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

We understand that stakeholder engagement is critical for the success of a project as it is during this period that the requirements and constraints of a project are further explored and agreed on. We build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders through proactive communication and regular structured consultation meetings through all stages of a project.

We are highly experienced at managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and work collaboratively to ensure a design outcome that meets the needs of end users while still prioritising the vision and objectives of the project.
