Kimberley College Art and Library Precinct
After the successful design of the Kimberley College Flexible Learning Area, Guymer Bailey Interiors was asked to design the new Kimberley College Art and Library Precinct that consists of a range of multipurpose learning spaces and semi-enclosed outdoor learning areas.
The library has a spacious interior that captures an abundance of natural light and bushland views. It includes a tiered reading nook, shelving space for books and a range of flexible teaching spaces. It also utilised an extendable auditorium to provide flexibility in use and seating. The art building features flexible indoor and outdoor teaching spaces, a computer lab for computer-aided design, wet and dry areas, storage spaces and a kiln covered in burnt timber cladding. Connecting the library and art studio is the ‘chill spot’, a fun area that gives art students a blank canvas to paint each year as a tradition of the art school.
The use of warm colours and timber features throughout the Art and Library Precinct bring vibrancy to learning areas and are designed to create a greater connection between indoor and outdoor learning areas. To suppress noise for improved learning outcomes, and to ensure optimum acoustics throughout the Art and Library precinct, considered acoustic treatment of walls, floors, and ceilings was incorporated.
