McKinnon Sports Park

Guymer Bailey Architects were commissioned to undertake a site analysis and survey of the exiting McKinnon Sports Park in Yarrabilba and to propose a suitable location within the park to construct a new clubhouse. Four sites were investigated, and a comparison analysis was completed. The area central to the football fields, in the vicinity of an existing amenities building was selected. This assessment was followed by the development of a concept design for a new clubhouse on this preferred site. The brief stipulated that the scheme should take into consideration features as listed in the Logan City Council’s Local Category A and Regional Guidelines. The concept for the new clubhouse followed in principle these guidelines, however it was adapted to include the existing amenities facilities which were re-purposed and remodeled.

The new clubhouse accommodates a central club room which can be used for sporting and community events, and this is serviced by a commercial kitchen and associated administration facilities. The existing amenities block provides the public unisex toilets as well as referees change rooms. There are two large sporting change room facilities which are able to be sectioned into to four smaller changerooms. It is a requirement that the clubhouse has clear views to all areas of the park and the general concept is that of separate pavilions. This in turn allows views through and between the buildings which encouraged CPTED surveillance.
