ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture. Specifically, we acknowledge the traditional lands of the Turrbal and Yagerra people where our Brisbane Studio is located and the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Eastern Kulin Nation where our Melbourne Studio is located.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and recognise their cultures, histories, and deep connection in caring for land and acknowledge this land was stolen, never ceded.
CARING FOR AND CONNECTING TO COUNTRY IS AT THE HEART OF ALL OUR PROJECTS
As designers, it is our role to translate the traditional stories and connection, revealed through the community that allow them to be told, and to also consider the opportunity for new stories to be made, particularly where there is a need for acknowledgement or reconciliation – through shared histories.
Our experience has proven that it takes the expertise, knowledge, and passion of all parties to co-create these places. That is why we have developed a framework for bringing people together that allows both creativity and transparency to enable the shared vision to be achieved.
Enabling cross-cultural design means allowing those who are traditional owners of the project site to fully participate, if they wish, during the design process.

Our cross-cultural design engagement process
Cross-cultural design engagement takes many forms and at GB-A, it’s why we curate it to suit your project. Our approach depends on the brief opportunities and restraints and importantly who can participate in co-informing the developing brief.
We start our projects by first connecting with Country (who, what, where). Then, create opportunities for Country to share their values and aspirations for the project. Finally, enable Country to maintain design engagement throughout the project through to completion. We aim to listen, to enable and to empower cultural values and ideas on our projects.
