Hervey Bay Residence
Guymer Bailey Architects designed this nautical themed residence for a prominent Hervey Bay property agent and builder. The residence consists of four bedrooms, two on the ground, and two on the upper floor with the master bedroom also including a dressing room and ensuite with spa bath. There are two bathrooms, a bar area, and two separate living areas with private outdoor entertaining areas centred on the swimming pool.
The elevated swimming pool with its steel structure exposed and an infinity edge depict an inside-out timber boat floating in the ocean. Designed in line with our commitment to environmental design, the pool is positioned to access breezes across the water and allow cooling before the air enters the naturally ventilated house. The property also exhibits our purposedesigned and engineered connectors and fixings, and features a combination of pyramid, curved and skillion roofs, light steel struts and cables, stained natural hardwood weatherboard walls and screens, to create greater tropical Queensland coastal appeal.
The landscape design accentuates the rich native tropical landscape with the front garden also mimicking the shape of the pool, while lush lawns integrate with detailed geometric paving.
Stage A works included the refurbishment and extension of an existing two-storey classroom block as well as the construction of a new covered walkway through the centre of the school.
PROCESS
Open timber stairs and bridges designed with nautical detailing, allow access to the bedrooms and bathrooms, and the study overlooks the double garage with views of its beautifully planted roof. A water feature in the main entrance draws natural sunlight to the entryway, and a reflective pond in the back garden laps against the boat ramp that links the home to the canal.
METHODOLOGY
With a focus on sustainable design, an angled band of transparent glazing that separates the roof from the house to allow natural sunlight into living spaces, while heat is controlled through the thick limestone brickwork, deeply recessed glass and inverted parasol roof. The home also utilises solar panels and underground concrete water tanks for irrigation and grey water use.
